Swimmingpool Quinta do Corvo

In a green valley, near the village of Colares in the protected area of the Parque Natural de Sintra-Cascais, you will find Quinta do Corvo.

In 1991 the Quinta opened its gate to tourists as one of the first in the Sintra region near Lisbon, one of the most beautiful and versatile regions of Portugal.

The property consists of approximately 3 acres. For centuries, farmers lived and worked here, but now all the buildings have been extensively refurbished and renovated, giving the property several lovely buildings.

The old farmhouse and his stables

Coming through the entrance you pass the gatehouse for the caretaker. The main house is at the very top of the drive way. Halfway up the slope, you will find the rebuilt old farm-house with its stables which are now all converted into apartments.

This complex can be rented as a whole, sleeping a group of max 24. Equally, it can be divided into 8 comfortable apartments or studios, each with kitchenette, en-suite bathroom and terrace or courtyard. If you decide to rent the units separately, the capacity per unit is 2-5 people.

The unique garden

The garden of the “Quinta “is a unique feature in itself, not to be missed. The owner is a passionate gardener and member of the Mediterranean Garden Society.
Inspired by many garden trips all over the world, he designed the garden with the help of a well known Dutch garden-architect. Now, the garden presents a combination of an English landscaped garden with an Italian formal garden. Therefore, over the last 20 years and within the humid and mild Sintra climate a lush, romantic subtropical place has been created which needs to be explored to appreciate its splendour. Today, it not only houses all kind of animals, such as sheep, ducks, chicken, dogs and cats, but also hosts a collection of modern art.

The fascinating region

The beaches of the Atlantic coast are only 3 km away, but if you would rather rest and relax without any hassle, guests can use the heated swimming pool of the “Quinta“.
The property is situated on an old Roman road. Now, a footpath, it connects the villages of Colares and Almoçageme, which make a pleasurable walk of 10 minutes to each of them.
In these villages you can find everything you need: local shops, cafe, several typical Portuguese restaurants, the nearest being only 1 km away from the Quinta.
There are also a lot of walking and tracking possibilities in the Serra and along the coast, where the Quinta can act as starting point.

From the main road, only 500 metres from the gate, there is a regular bus connection to Sintra, the romantic former summer residence of Portuguese royalty with old houses, parks and loads of beautiful palaces to visit. On the other side of Sintra and Colares, lies Cascais, a modern seaside resort with a bustling atmosphere, by day and by the night.

A lot of sightseeing can be done, and the capital Lisbon can be reached easily by train or motorway.

About us

Ben, Teddy en Flor

Bernard Weijers Paquete, the owner of the Quinta, was born in the Netherlands. After his Law study, he worked in a social security department of a provincial town and teached law at a professional institution.

In that period, he discovered that law matters were not his passion, but that he preferred gardening and garden architecture. In 1987 he took his change and moved to Portugal.

Waiting for all the building permissions, he started with the lay-out of the garden. The rebuilding of the old farm-house of the property was  finished in 1991, and in May of that year the first guests arrived. In 1992 the first sculpture-exposition was held in the garden, an initiative repeated several summers and resulted in a number of pieces of art through the garden. Since then, the garden became mature, and there are now 8 rental units.

But this project is never finished. It is a  source of inspiration and outlet of creativity. Like an oil painting where the paint never dries, giving the artist the possibility to put layers on layers. In short, a very authentic and personal creation that we like to share with you.

Ben and his Portuguese partner and the 2 portuguese waterdogs Teddy and Flore, and 5 cats live in the main-house of the Quinta. Ben is speaking fluently Dutch, English, German and of course Portuguese.
